A Love That Came Late

Rohan never believed in love. To him, it was just a word people used when they didn’t want to feel alone. But everything changed the day he met Naina.

She wasn’t the loudest person in the room, nor the most noticeable. Yet somehow, she was the only one he could see. There was something about her quiet smile, the way she listened more than she spoke, that made him feel calm… like he had finally found something he didn’t know he was missing.

They started as friends. Small talks turned into long conversations, random meetings turned into daily routines. Rohan began to notice how she remembered the little things about him — his favorite song, the way he liked his coffee, even the things he never said out loud.

And somewhere in between all those moments… he fell in love.

One evening, as the sky faded into shades of orange and grey, Rohan finally gathered the courage to speak.

"Naina… I think I’ve fallen for you."

There was silence.

Naina looked at him, her eyes soft but heavy with something unspoken. After a pause, she smiled — not the usual bright one, but a quiet, painful one.

"Rohan… I wish you had met me earlier."

Those words didn’t break him instantly. They sank in slowly, like rain seeping into the ground.

He didn’t ask questions. He didn’t try to change her answer. Because sometimes, love isn’t about holding on… it’s about understanding when to let go.

Days passed. Then weeks. They stopped talking like they used to. The silence grew, but so did the memories.

And one day, she was just… gone from his everyday life.

Rohan still smiles when he thinks of her. Not because it didn’t hurt, but because it was real.

Because sometimes,

love isn’t meant to last forever… it’s just

 meant to change you forever.
